Los Angeles Free Events Summer 2018

Summer is upon us and that means LA is about to get lousy with 100’s of FREE events! June Gloom can’t stop us from enjoying all the free concerts, movies, plays, festivals and more in the coming months. Check out my video from last summer for a sampling of all the free fun. Events are listed in the order in which they begin. Events that begin in June can run through August/September. I will update the guide throughout the summer and if you know of a free event I left out please contact me in the comments section or on my contact page.

Venice Art Crawl

Muscle Beach Outdoor Bodybuilding Shows
There’s nothing like Venice beach on a summer holiday. Come watch the bodybuilders and fitness models compete at the Venice Recreation Center, on the Venice boardwalk. Lots of fitness companies hand out free samples of everything from protein powder to t-shirts at the show. There’s usually ample street parking a few blocks from the beach, so save yourself the $20+ parking lot fee.

Natural History Museum Summer Nights in the Garden

One of my summertime favorites, come explore the Natural History Museum’s extensive garden after dark! Take a botanical tour with the NHMLA Nature Gardens staff, enjoy a marionette show, learn a new craft (I still have the gourd vessel I made 3 years ago!), or just chill-out on the lawn listening to the DJ. If you want to participate in a craft class, make sure you find the craft station and pick up a timed ticket as soon as you arrive. If you don’t have a ticket you won’t be able to attend the class. Avoid expensive downtown parking fees by taking LA Metro, the Expo line stops right in from of the museum.

Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival

One of my favorite summer traditions, the Independent Shakespeare Company’s Free Shakespeare Festival in Griffith Park is a must-do and this year they’re celebrating their 15th anniversary! Everything you need to know to attend a performance can be found in my video.
All performances are at the Old Zoo picnic area in Griffith Park and begin at 7:00 pm.
