Free Museum Days

While Los Angeles abounds with totally free museums, almost every museum in the city offers regular free days. Here’s my handy guide to all the free admission days at museums throughout the LA area:

Autry Museum of the American West in Griffith Park

Free admission is offered the second Tuesday of every month.
Free admission is offered daily to:
Active military and veterans, peace officers, and park rangers with I.D.

Free admission is offered the third Tuesday of every month, no advance tickets required. Free admission does not include special events and exhibits.

Japanese American National Museum

Free admission is offered the third Thursday of every month and every Thursday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art offers free general admission the second Tuesday of every month. Los Angeles County residents receive free general admission every week: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Friday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Free general admission is also offered on the following federal holidays: Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, and Memorial Day. General admission is also free to all active-duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden

Free admission is offered the third Tuesday of every month, however the tram does not operate on this day.

Free admission is offered the first Tuesday of every month (except July and August) and every Tuesday in September. Reserve tickets in advance to guarantee entry and skip the line. Free admission does not include specialty ticketed exhibits.

Free admission is offered the first Thursday of every month from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

MOCA Grand Avenue and The Geffen Contemporary

The Museum Of Contemporary Art and The Geffen Contemporary both offer free admission every Thursday 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Free admission is also offered every day to jurors with a juror I.D. badge, which takes the sting out of that jury duty notice!

Free admission is offered every Sunday and on the forth Thursday of every month from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Children 12 and under are always free.
